years in pediatric speech-language practice
About the practice
Care built around your child — and around you.
Rocky Mountain Speech Therapy is the solo, mobile practice of Katie Price, M.A., CCC-SLP, BCS-AAC — twenty-one years of helping children who are working hard to be understood, and steadying the families who love them.

Her story
Why a mobile practice, and why AAC.
Katie earned her master's degree from CU Boulder and has spent her career discovering that communication is learned best in real life — on the living-room floor, in the classroom, at the playground and the grocery store. So she built a practice with no clinic and no waiting room, one that travels to the child instead of asking the child to travel to it.
Her deepest work is in augmentative and alternative communication. Katie is one of a small number of board-certified AAC specialists in the country, supporting children who use devices, symbol boards, and eye-gaze systems. The belief underneath all of it is simple: this child has a great deal to say, and everyone deserves to hear it.
She serves on the Cherry Creek School District's AAC/AT team, collaborates closely with physicians, schools, and families, and brings the same depth and warmth to every child she works with.
If you're worried, start here
You don't need to have the words for it yet. You just need to reach out.
Many parents arrive tired — from waitlists, from school meetings, from wondering whether they're doing enough. You are. Katie will meet you exactly where you are, explain things in plain language, and help you figure out the next small step. No referral, no pressure, no wrong questions.
What it's actually like
Therapy that looks like play — because that's how children learn.
She comes to you
Katie arrives at your home, your child's classroom, or a familiar community spot. Your child stays in the environment where they feel safest.
Work woven into play
Sessions follow your child's interests — toys, snacks, routines, favorite books — so new communication skills attach to real, motivating moments.
You're part of it
Katie coaches you in the moment and leaves you with simple things to try, so progress keeps going long after she drives away.
Where the work happens
In your child's own world.
There's no clinic to visit and no waiting room to sit in. Katie meets your child on the living-room floor, at their desk, or out in the community — the places where communication actually happens, so the skills your child builds belong to their real, everyday life.
A voice that fits
The right tools, matched to your child.
Whether it's a speech-generating device, a symbol board, PROMPT cues for clearer speech, or literacy support, Katie finds what genuinely fits — and coaches your family and your child's team to use it with confidence. The goal is never a gadget. It's your child, finally heard.
The work, in plain language
Specialist therapy, explained the way a parent needs it.
Every child is different, so Katie draws on a deep toolkit. Here's what each part actually means for your child.
AAC & communication devices
When speech alone isn't enough, a device, symbol board, or eye-gaze system gives your child a reliable voice. As a board-certified specialist, Katie finds the right system and coaches your whole circle to use it — so your child can finally say what they've always had inside.
PROMPT articulation therapy
For children working toward clearer speech, PROMPT uses gentle touch cues on the face and jaw to shape sounds. It helps a child feel how a word is made — turning frustration into being understood.
Language & comprehensive literacy
Understanding, expressing, reading, and writing grow together. Using approaches like Readtopia, Katie builds language and literacy side by side so your child can connect, learn, and belong.
Family & school partnership
Katie collaborates with teachers, physicians, and IEP teams, and stands with you in the meetings and decisions that shape your child's care — so you never have to advocate alone.

In your world
Home, school, community, or teletherapy — never a beige clinic room.
One team
Physicians, schools, and family, coordinated around your child.
Real-life goals
Skills practiced in the moments they're actually needed.
No barriers
No referral required, and currently accepting new clients.
What families can hope for
Progress looks different for every child — and every step counts.
A first “I want that”
The moment a child asks for something on their own — by voice, sign, or device — and realizes the world responds.
Calmer days
As communication grows, frustration often shrinks. Being understood changes how a whole household feels.
Confidence that carries
Skills practiced in real life travel with your child — into the classroom, with friends, and out in the world.
Communication is learned in real life — so that's exactly where we do the work.
“Every child I meet is already communicating. My job is to help the people around them hear it — and to make sure no family has to figure that out alone.”
Questions parents often ask
My child is very young — is it too early to start?
It's rarely too early. Katie works with children from birth, and early support often makes the biggest difference. If you have a concern, it's worth a conversation.
Will a communication device stop my child from talking?
No — research consistently shows the opposite. AAC supports and often encourages spoken language. The goal is always more communication, in whatever way works for your child.
How involved do I need to be?
As involved as you can be — you're the expert on your child. Katie coaches you so the strategies fit naturally into your family's day, without adding pressure.
Do I need a referral or a diagnosis first?
No referral is required, and you don't need a diagnosis to reach out. Katie is in-network with Colorado Medicaid, welcomes private pay, and can discuss out-of-network options.
